Thinking Outside The Shelter Success Stories
Nonny earns a Happy Birthday cookie and a place in mom’s heart!
Nonny was found in April 2011. Her rescuer fostered her for 6 months and ended up adopting her even though she was afraid of pit bulls when she found her. Nonny quickly taught her that every dog deserves a chance regardless of their breed or how they look. Her adopter shared her one year update with us:
"We LOVE her! She's spoiled rotten, too. It will be one year on Monday that I found her, and I already have a chicken liver Happy Birthday cookie waiting for her. Nonny has definitely settled in, and I can't believe I was afraid of her when I found her. She has subtly encouraged the breaking of previous household rules: no dogs on the couch and no dogs on the bed. But she has brought such an amazing amount of life to our house, that I've decided to look the other way. She has become best buddies with both of the other dogs (especially Miss Ruby), and her favorite activities are sitting in the sun and playing keep away and chase with Shadow and Ruby. And swimming!"
Ollie, the “skullcrusher”
Big, handsome, lovable Ollie has made quite an impression on his new family:
"I LOVE MY OLLIE SO MUCH! He's settled in quite nicely and I think he has accepted me as his new mom. Every time I hug him when he's lying down (I press my upper body against him), he's purring before I even make contact. He has such a wonderful personality and he's such a sweet boy. I call him Skullcrusher because he headbutts me in the face every chance he gets. He's going to give me a concussion one of these days, and I'm going to laugh... He seems very happy here. My girl cat, Miles, who is 9, is slowly learning to get along with him. He's been allowed to semi-snuggle with her twice, which is more than my Zeke was allowed to do in 9 years. He really is a wonderful cat. I can't thank you guys and his fosters enough. I'm extremely fortunate to have him in my family."
Kaia and Paco went home together!
Kaia and Paco's adopter went home with double the fun! They were adopted together over a year ago and their adopter's update says it all:
"Kaia and Paco are the most adorable, loving, and happy cats I've ever had. They make me smile even when I don't feel like it. Paco has grown to be the big boy we thought he would since his paws were huge when he was a kitten. Kaia is a dainty lady who loves her toy slipper. I CAN'T imagine my life without them! All of our lives improved when we found each other a little over a year ago! Paco is my big boy and Kaia is my little lady. We've had an amazing year together...they are healthy, full of personality, and love to cuddle. That, in my opinion, is a perfect cat! Thanks again for bringing these babies into my life!"
Brigit is now a Hoosier!
Brigit, a 5-year old Basset Hound, was VERY pregnant when she was found as a stray in October 2011. She was with her rescuer for three days before giving birth to 9 puppies! Her amazing rescuer fostered momma and all the puppies until they were adopted. Brigit held out a little longer until just the right person came along...from more than 1,000 miles away! Her adopter just happened to live in Indiana but when she read about Brigit and saw her picture, she just knew she had to add her to the family. Brigit now resides in a home with 4 other hound doggies and a cat. She got off the plane in Indiana and made herself right at home! Click the picture above to see Brigit with her new family.
